Blogger: Emily Higgins (@twinmumanddad)
Blog Name: Twin Mummy and Daddy
What is your blog about?
I blog about a mixture of things, but the main topics I cover are parenting and travel, specifically Disney and travelling with children. I also include reviews and write about my hobbies such as sewing and fitness.
When did you first start blogging?
I first started blogging back in 2012 whilst on maternity leave. My husband and I had IVF and during that time I’d kept an online diary on a fertility forum. When our girls were born I wanted to continue to document our experiences, but the fertility forum didn’t feel like the right place to do this so I started a blog.
What is your motivation behind blogging?
I have many reasons why I blog. The first one has always been as a way to treasure moments that we share as a family. Having lost my own mum when I was 18, I don’t have many memories of her. I hope that by blogging my children will always be able to look back on it and remember moments that they may have forgotten or have been too young to remember.
What do you find most challenging about blogging?
Finding the time to keep up with social media! I’ve always got ideas in my head of things that I want to write about, but I find it most challenging to keep up with social media. In between work, looking after our girls and writing blog posts, I often forget about the ‘social’ aspect of social media. Some days, I just churn out what I’ve written, but I’m trying to make more of an effort to have conversations with people online.
What is your top tip for someone looking to start a blog?
Don’t do it! Haha! No, I’m joking, although I will say if you’re only doing it for the ‘money’ – don’t do it! I didn’t even know you could earn money and receive things to review when I first started blogging, so when I found out it was a ‘nice perk’. I think those that start a blog purely to make money and review things, quickly get bored and disappear.
I’d also say not to worry about what other people are doing. Don’t focus on stats, just write what you want to write, when you want to write it, and enjoy it!
What is the best thing a blogger can give to its reader?
Truth, honesty and relatable content.
I love a blog post that I can relate to, but that’s also honest and truthful. A blog that shows us the good and bad. I hate these posts that are all about how ‘perfect’ someone’s life is! Nobody is perfect!
What do you do when you’re not blogging?
Oh lots of things! Running, reading books on my kindle and sewing. They’re my top three go-to hobbies after blogging!
