What is your blog about?

My blog has evolved over the last year or so. When I started I wanted to split the content 50/50 with DIY and parenting. Although I still blog about DIY, my main focus is parenting and subjects that interest me which could be anything from world affairs to blogging in general.

When did you start blogging?

I started my blog in October 2014. I had an accident at work and broke my wrist, which stopped me from working for 6 weeks. My wife had been blogging for about three years and was always saying to me why don’t you start a blog, so I did, mainly to occupy my myself! So DIY Daddy was born.

What is your motivation behind blogging?

My motivation for blogging stems from being a frustrated writer for years. I always had so much to say, but there never seemed to be the time or anywhere to write down my ramblings. Blogging has enabled me to do that.

Another reason is my children. I love chronicling the lives of my children for them to read one day or maybe not, haha!

I’m also a competitive person and last year I was named in UK Top 10 Dad Bloggers @vuelio. To be named in these sort of lists is huge motivation for me.

What do you find most challenging about blogging?

I don’t find any particular part of blogging challenging. The reason is l love blogging, it’s a hobby and when you have a hobby you love it’s simply not a chore.

One thing that I find tough at times, but not challenging is nowadays I do a lot of sponsored work and it can be difficult to keep up with deadlines but that is all down to organisation.

What is your top tip for someone looking to start a blog?

If you are thinking of starting a blog the most important thing to keep in mind is that it doesn’t happen overnight. Readership and good stats take a long time to achieve.

If you are starting out decide on what you want to write about and stick to it. It is important that your readers know what to expect from you.

Enjoy it and write with passion. Posts with passion are always a better read.

What is the best thing a blogger can give to its reader?

Good, well written engaging content, don’t publish for the sake of it. Only publish quality content.

Work out your niche or subject and stick to it so your readers know what to expect from you.

What do you do when you’re not blogging?

I enjoy family time especially with my five year twins and days out and having adventures with them.

I love Xbox passionately, but unfortunately don’t have enough time to play!
